Shake Your Ass - Limited Commercial
“Shake Your Ass” is all about the groove. It blends the laid-back vibes of downtempo with the funky rhythms of old-school house and electro, creating a track that hits hard but still keeps things smooth. The beat is infectious and designed to get you moving, but there’s also a relaxed, almost hypnotic feel to it, making it the perfect track to vibe to or chill out with.
There’s a touch of trip-hop in the mix, adding experimental flair to the sound. The jazz influences give the track a world music feel, incorporating African rhythms that bring a unique, soulful element to the vibe. It’s a mix of chilled-out energy and rich musical textures, feeling both global and grounded.
While I was experimenting with blending genres, I was also trying to bring my own instrumentation into the mix. Vocals and guitar were my focus during this time. However, I didn’t quite know how to sing hip-hop or electronic music yet, coming from a blues background where I had mostly learned rock singing. Honestly, I didn’t even know how to sing properly—I was just going with it, using autotune to play around with my voice, though I was still a long way from making it work within electronic music.
When I listen back now, I can hear that the production, especially my vocals, could have been done way better. But at the time, it was a start. It was me figuring out how to integrate my voice into my music. I feel like this track marked the beginning of me experimenting with vocals alongside the electronic elements I was learning.
One thing I can say is that Logic Pro was on this old MacBook that’s currently broken, so I can’t even crack into the files just yet. And right now, I don’t have access to all the samples I used or anything for these songs. But one day, I’m going to get it all out. Until then, it’s just a piece of where I was at the time—a snapshot of growth, experimentation, and learning.
